| Summary: Highly effective indoor antenna for HDTV | ||
| In the past, have only been able to pickup 2 local stations very poorly. I bought this for a new HDTV and it is amazing. I get all digital stations in the area (most with perfect signal strength). | ||

| Summary: EXCELLENT indoor UHF antenna... Has problems with VHF. | ||
| I've tried this antenna with digital and analog signals. I live in a brick apartment building where an outdoor antenna isn't possible and indoor antennas aren't very effective. The UHF reception is AMAZING. I get analog signals so clean they look digital. Better than any indoor antenna I've ever tried. I even get the local PBS station in reasonably clearly when I've never been able to watch it before. On the downside... It's very weak at receiving VHF. The lower the channel number... the worse the reception. I cannot get channel 3 in at all, digital or analog. I have been able to do that with "rabbit ears". The digital reception is adequate for channels 5 and above. I may try replacing the small outboard amp included with a better one. Maybe the increased gain will help at the frequencies the antenna has very low gain ratings for. I would strongly recommend this antenna for anywhere a better indoor antenna should work. But, if you have a channel 3 that doesn't come in very strong... you may want to look at amplified VHF / UHF "rabbit ears" instead. | ||

| Summary: Worked Very Well, BUT It's Still an Indoor Antenna. | ||
| I purchased the Winegard Sharpshooter antenna as a somewhat-last-resort for digital TV reception. I had tried a number of amplified antennas, and most of them did virtually nothing or were spotty at best. In every case, a roof-mounted antenna will always be superior. So if an indoor one (like this one) doesn't cut it, it's hard to blame the antenna. Basically, it's purely a matter of trial and error. I live about 15 miles from the tower. In my case, this single tower holds the transmitters for nearly all the stations in my area, so having to re-adjust the antenna depending on the station isn't a problem. With other antennas, I was experiencing pretty severe multipath, which really kills digital TV reception, even in strong signal areas. I experimented with different designs, placement, amplification, etc. The Winegard grabbed and locked EVERY signal, whereas the others usually picked up only half of them. For those who had problems with this antenna, please consider a few things: 1. If you're inside a building with a lot of concrete, aluminum siding, lots of steel, or directly behind any structure with these things, there's NOTHING you can do--an indoor antenna simply won't work. Ditto if you're in a valley or face directly into a hill. Remember: This whole thing depends on LINE of SIGHT to the transmitter, AND the elimination of multipath interferene (which is the signal bouncing off different objects and arriving at the receiver at slightly different times.) 2. While most HD digital broadcasts are UHF, there are a fair number in the VHF frequency range. (In my case, a station that broadcasts its ANALOG frequency on UHF Channel 47, broadcasts its DIGITAL signal on VHF 11.) So check the stations in your area... you MAY need an antenna that can do BOTH UHF and VHF. 3. Stations vary quite a bit in their output power. Some won't lock on at 10 miles, others are perfect at 35 miles. Winegard has been around a heck of a long time, and if their products don't work, you can be assured that others won't be significantly better. |

| Summary: Not impressed | ||
| There is a lot of buzz about SS 3000 antenna, and a lot of hype about all the "technology" and "patents" involved. I don't know about the patents (it looks like an ordinary scatter plane antenna to me), but the performance is so-so. I've bought a SS 3000 recently hoping to pick up some of the channels that my ZHDTV1 antenna couldn't. Nah! The winegard SS3000 could do nothing that my Zenith ZHDTV1 antenna - a much cheaper version, couldn't. May be my expectations were just too high. It is still an indoor antenna ... | ||

| Summary: Outstanding - I'll buy another. | ||
| I bought this antenna for my mother, who had tried several other antennas, with poor results - and who didn't want cable. This antenna was simple to set up and it works BEAUTIFULLY! She gets great reception on all of her former channels and a host of new channels that she hadn't been able to receive. Now she understands why everyone is so impressed with HDTV - it was well worth the price. She has observed that sometimes on very windy days the reception is less stable on some stations (in TX and OK we can get some fierce winds) - but she is still very happy with it. I'm so impressed with it that I'm going to get another for myself (because it will be easier than climbing around in the attic to run another cable to the guest room). | ||
