Lately we have been dealing with an increasing number of attempts to manipulate antennas ranking. Note: each person is allowed to post one and only one review for each antenna model. Exceptions can be made only under special circumstances when the reviewer feels that his earlier review must be corrected.

We have a sophisticated manipulation detection system in place and we will not tolerate any attempt to game the system and mislead consumers and our visitors. We reserve the right to delete any review that we feel is misleading or inappropriate and do that at our sole discretion. Thanks for understanding.

Also, from now on we require all reviews to be at least 100 words long. Short reviews, such as "a piece of junk" or "works as advertised" are not very helpful. Consider specifying more details. Elaborate on your location, the equipment you are using, reception quality of specific channels in your area. Check the word counter at the bottom when writing.

Summary: Does not pick up VHF
This is a UHF only antenna. I don\t get any VHF channels and have used an AMP. Direction is ok and UHF channels come in very good. I also feel let down. It didn\t work. It took a hundred dollar chance and I lost. I\ll have to add a VHF antenna or another UHF/VHF combo. It worked fine before the HDTV switchover when FOX and NBC were broadcasting HDTV on UHF. Now, it\s a good paperweight. Location is hilly, but got VHF channels fine in analog with rabbit ears back in the analog days.

Summary: Why didn\t I do this sooner
Picked up the SS-2000 locally from Craig\s list. Plugged in the coax to the back of the antenna, placed the unit on my window ledge, then the other end to my TV. Out of the box I picked up 18 HD channels. I plugged in the amplifier, turned on and rescanned the channels, viola...28 HD channels. Extremely happy with the unit. I live on the 2nd floor of a 4 story bldg. and am located 10 miles from downtown DC where most of the network transmitters are located. Total time spent to HD viewing pleasure....30 mins. That\s only because I decided to tidy up the wires that led to and from my entertainment center.

Summary: Huge Disappointment For Me
I ordered mine from Amazon. It arrived very quickly. I liked the design (sat dish-like) and thought I could mount it on my roof w/ no hassle from neighbors. Tried connecting it to my HDTV to see how well it picked up signals from inside the house. Not good. Worse than my $6 RCA rabbit ears from BestBuy. Even so, was stupid enough to go through hassle to install on my 2nd story roof. Amazingly, same result. Returning unit asap. I live in far west MI (Kalamazoo) and unfortunately it is a "signally-challenged" area where nearest broadcast towers are about 30-50 miles away, due north from me in Grand Rapids. Most people here have satellite or cable, but I thought this ant could handle it b/c rated for 50 miles. Not sure what my next move will be. Thinking of going for the Channel Master CM4228HD ant, b/c of long range rating. But I dont have high expectations that it will work any better. Just can't bring myself to choke up $60+/mo to watch HD tv. Also concerned about my subdivision homeowner's association getting on me for mounting a larger antenna on my roof

Winegard SS-2000 Review #3
Rating: 2 (poor) Nickname: Randy Date: 2009-03-09
Summary: $35 regular antenna from Radio Shack seems to work better
I purchased the SS 2000 (amplified) because at times the the HD reception I recieve from my $35 Radio Shack standard antenna seems to cut out for a couple seconds and only on Channel 7.1. Channel 7 is an important channel around here. My Radio Shack antenna is mounted inside my attic and the rotator doesnt work but it seemed to work pretty good in just one direction. With digital tv around the corner I figured I better get an antenna for HDTV from a name brand manufacturer. I bought the SS 2000 because signal is amplified. I mounted it high on the roof and positioned carefully to make certain it faced in the optimum direction. Unfortunately, it didn't work as well as I had hoped It did'nt even get Channel 7 at all. After a couple months Winegard responded and sent be a another chip to place inside the SS 2000 which would make it into a less expensive SS 1000 model. They said Channel 7 was too close and the signal was too strong. I climbed on my snowy roof (i live in Buffalo) and managed to change it out. It did not make any difference. I emailed them back but they said I should wait till everything is changed over to digital to see what happens. I feel let down. I didn't work. It took a hundred dollar chance and I lost.

Summary: NOT FOR VHF USE
Our local tv station made the switch to digital on feb 17th which they were broadcasting originally on uhf band channel 55. When they made the switch they changed to vhf channel seven. This antenna is not designed for vhf therefore we lost our local NBC station. So beware when you buy this antenna that if any of your channels switch to vhf you will have a problem.
