Summary: excellent, cheaper, easier to install
Installed on roof of 2 story house with major pine trees blocking the skyline, approx 10 feet above roof peak. Amplified with Spartan 3. Getting all three major networks, 2 on HD from Eagle River (25 miles) and Rhinelander (30 miles) and even getting 5 public broadcast channels all in HD out of Park Falls (27 miles) without having to rotate the antenna. Park Falls is a complete 180 degrees behind the facing orientation of the antenna. Picking up channel 2 in Wausau which is 74 miles away and picking up FOX 55 which is 95 miles away; they must be broadcasting in UHF. I know FOX isn't HD yet according to their website not sure about channel 2(both are fuzzy like old school TV but very watchable). I don't have antenna rotator installed yet but doing that later this week to try and see if I can get more Wausau channels and bring FOX in a little better. Signal strength for all the local channels is at 100 % most of the time.

Summary: great investment
I'm located in a blue area according to antenna web but I'm 25 miles from the transmitter and this thing is rated for 45 miles so I dropped $45 @ Fry's Electronics and stuck it in the 2nd story attic. Receive 6 of 9 digital channels crystal clear, not getting PBS tho which I'm bummed about. Debating whether to add 2nd 4221 pointed towards PBS trans (4 degree rotation) or get the bigger 4228. Any suggestions?

Rating: 5 (excellent) Nickname: Tigerbangs Date: 2007-02-12
Summary: An excellent UHF antenna for use in areas 15-35 miles from the local transmitters
The Channel Master 4221 is a classic: it has been around for over 40 years, and it is still a successful design. For those who need good UHF reception in suburban and near fringe areas, it remains one of the top choices in UHF antennas. It's compact size, rugged construction and low cost make it an easy choice. Like it's bigger brother, the Channel Master 4228, the 4221 doesn't like attics and garages: it needs to be outdoors and up high to do it's best work, but it is extremely rugged and easy to install antenna, and it's low profile makes it a good choice for those who are otherwise offended by the aesthetics of a large antenna. It has a broad beamwidth (angle of signal pickup) so it is a good choice for areas where transmitters are spaced at some distance apart.

Summary: Im impressed!!
I sought out this antenna after reading other reviews on this site. I got mine at Fry's in San Diego and it was the last one they had, they had several 4228's also. I started out with a set of .50 cent rabbit ears and got 16 analog and 9 Digital stations but no Fox. Which is not bad for a cheap set of rabbit ears. As soon as I did the scan with the 4221 I got 21 Analog and 12 digital and yes, I got Fox now!! And I didn't even go outside with it!! It's hanging on a rafter inside my garage!! So I have every possible Network broadcast i.e. ABC, NBC, CBS, CW and FOX in crystal clear HD. And many local stations as well. I will admit though that here in Bonita, east of Chula Vista, Im within 8 miles from Mt. Miguel and over the hill I can see Mt. Soledad 20 miles away. But Fox is on Mt. San Antonio in Tijuana and that is a good distance away and Im on a slope facing away from it and surrounded by trees. So to sum this all up, if this antenna could also make dinner I would marry her!!

ChannelMaster CM4221 Review #4
Rating: 5 (excellent) Nickname: anonymous Date: 2007-06-21
Summary: among the best for 45 miles or less
I have tried several UHF antennas and found the 4221 to be the best overall for installations within 45 miles of the transmitter. It has a wider beamwidth than the 4228 thus making it better suited to urban areas where stations may be scattered around. I've seen the 4221 work over a 90-degree spread between stations (one due south and one due west). It is small and light so there is rarely a problem with wind loading or mast strength. It is well constructed and won't fall apart in the first storm that blows through.
