Which antenna is best for my area?

I live in an area surrounded by mountains. I've tried to use the clearstream 2 antenna outdoors, it only gave me 7 channel max. I'm trying to find the best outdoor antenna for my rooftop. It's a bit confusing trying to determine which antenna works best in my area. I'm also not sure which I should go with directional or multi-directional. If possible I'd rather use antenna that doesn't require an amplifer. Thanks
