What do I need?

Postby jimmy2oo3 on Wed Jun 22, 2011 8:26 am

I'm new to antennas, but am fed up with Time Warner:) I live in Seneca Falls, NY--right between Rochester and Syracuse. I have Syracuse to my east and Rochester to my west. I want to know what I should get to receive the most channels with the clearest pictures. Is it possible to hook up two long-range directional antennas together? Is there a better way? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Start with a TVfool.com analysis of your address to determine if an Omnidirectional antenna would work in your area, I can only recommend this option though if your are close(within 20 Miles) of the transmitter locations and the terrain is unobstructed. Otherwise using either 2 directional antennas and a signal combiner to feed multiple tvs or an antenna rotor for a single receiver are good options. If preamplification is needed, Winegard has a signal amp with 2 inputs for combining antenna signals. Make sure your antennal mast is mounted/fastened to a sturdy object with lag bolts and guy wire support to handle wind loads or use a "ground up" telescoping mast with attachments to the house and guy wires to support the top section when mounting 2 antennas. A large mast must be bonded to the power company MGN electrode at the power service entrance for NEC compliance.
