What Kind of TV Do You Like?

Postby Shannon on Fri Apr 11, 2008 12:32 am

I was just curious about the types of TVs everyone on here likes. I have a Sony Bravia 52 inch 1080p. I am very happy with it. My husband and I did quite a bit of research before we bought it. We have a all Sony accessories (except for our Xbox) and it all communicates very well. Do any of you have HDTVs you would recommend (or ones you would not recommend, for that matter!)?

I've been looking for a new TV myself. I currently have a Sharp Aquos 32 inch television. I've had nothing but problems with it lately. It worked great for just over a year, then suddenly the sound stopped working and it wouldn't always turn on. I've done a google search on that TV and found that many, many others with the same model TV started having problems right around the time it reached a year and a half old.

I would never recommend any Sharp TV after my experience with this one. The company seems not to care since it is after the warranty expires. The problem is, when you buy an expensive TV like that you expect it to work for longer than a year and a half.

Any suggestions for a good quality TV that will be reliable is much apreciated.

I think that Samsung LN-T3253H HDTV produces relatively deep blacks with fine shadow detail; accurate color; slick styling; scads of picture controls; superb connectivity with one PC and three HDMI inputs altough it is expensive compared to bargain models; grayscale tends toward blue in darker areas. But comparing with that it's got a great style, oodles of features, and a solid picture combine to make the Samsung LN-T3253H one of the best LCD TVs available at its size. I've bought it as soon at came available.

I own a Vizio VW37L. I've only owned it for a couple months now, but so far it is great! I've compared this TV to many others in the store, and this one seemed to have very comparable picture quality compared to the more expensive brands. It also has 3 HDMI ports, component connections, and pretty much every other connection you could need. Also, it is the perfect size to fit in my entertainment center and has very loud speakers that sound great.

My only real knock on it, is that the blacks do tend to get crushed in some darker scenes and it is a 720p TV instead of 1080p.

I'm still learning from reading forums like this. I'm cut from "old cloth" and this stuff is alien to me... Any recommendations?

@ Derek - We thought about getting a Sharp, too, but I read several negative reviews about the television and we decided to stay clear. It's funny, too, because they used to have a pretty good reputation.

@Johnny - When I did my research before buying a new television, it seemed like the Samsung and Sony models were the ones with the most positive reviews. Samsung costs less than Sony - have you owned a Sony, too? Or, do you know someone that does? I am just curious how the two really compare to one another. We are really happy with our Sony Bravia.

@ Shannon: No I haven't owned a Sony but before I boughting this one I've managed to get some informations about Samsung that really kept my attention. A friend of mine had one before and I was really impressed with its characteristics and as a plus there were days when the tv didn't stop running because it is in a selling store.

I've heard of many good things about Samsung TV's also. They almost always get good reviews online, plus when I go to the store they look great also. I think they look as good as Sony TV's, except they seem to be cheaper. I can't wait to get my tax refund back, so I can actually go and get a new TV!

I really don't understand the differences between these tvs. I mean, if Sony and Samsung are both so good, why do the Sony tvs cost so much more than Samsung and why do people continue buying Sony if they aren't any better than Samsung. I am so confused! :?
