You have 4 VHF digital stations in LA, and you will need a combination VHF-high-band plus UHF antenna to see everything that you want. I suggest a Winegard HD-7694P or an AntennaCraft HBU-33 antenna mounted on the roof and aimed at 275 degreed as measured by a compass. use high-quality RG-6u coaxial cable, and ground the antenna properly: you will see MANY stations using that antenna system: if you plan to use multiple TV sets, you will need an amplified splitter like the Channel Master 341x series amplifiers.

I installed the Winegard HD-7694P with a 50ft drop to one Mitsubishi TV - 73" Home Theater TV when i scan for digital channels I get #7 and up. no 2,4,5. if i connect a digital converter box between tv and antenna all channels come in. but the converter box has a poor remote. is the converter box acting as a Pre-amplifiers?

No, but you may have the antenna lead improperly split, or your TV tuner may not be set up up properly: go into the menu and be sure that you have the tuner set for ANTENNA or AIR, and not CABLE, then rescan
