West Seattle,WA HDTV Antenna Recommendation

Postby dlavoie on Sun Jan 17, 2010 4:02 pm

I live in West Seattle, WA - zip code 98116
I live in a 3 story house that's about as high as most in the area, and there are only a few tall trees around.
I have my current 15 year old Terk antennae set up in my attic, and I'm hoping to do the same with my new HDTV antennae.
I have an existing cable (coaxial I think) coming down from my attic to the basement where my relatively new Panasonic HDTV (model TH-C42FD18) with built in tuner) is located.

I'm currently thinking a Winegard HD8200U (w/o amplifier) would be the best new HDTV antenna for me - but can you let me know if you agree or recommend another one more highly?
I plan on running only 1 TV set from the antenna - maybe adding a 2nd some time in the future.
Price is not a big issue - but I don't want to spend more (on another antenna or on an amplifier) if it won;t make much incremental difference.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Denis

Signals are very strong in your area, and a Winegard HD-8200 is severe overkill in your area: most of the transmitters are only 6 miles or less from your house KCPQ is in the opposite direction from the other Seattle TV stations. I would use Winegard HD-7694P, preferably mounted on your roof, and aimed at 30 degrees by your compass and you should use a separate VHF high-band yagi, like an AntennaCraft Y-5-7-13 aimed at 250 degrees, separated by 4' on the same mast, and joined using a Channel Master JoinTenna. You will see all of the Sea-Tac stations perfectly if you follow my advice.

Thanks for your recommendation.
Given that I have a slate roof and other reasons I want to stay within my attic (not a roof mount), and I'd like a simpler and lower cost implementation.
If I wanted to go with just one Winegard antenna which would you recommend?

A slate roof will effectively block almost all your reception if you mount an antenna in the attic. You can strap an antenna to a chimney if you have one, or use an eave mount or a gable mount to put the antenna outdoors. Follow my original advice by mounting the antennas outdoors as I have suggested.
