way OT!: boosting signal for this device?

Postby powerdog on Thu May 22, 2008 2:40 pm

I just got an indoor weather station that works on the Ambient information network. This is it:

http://www.bushnell.com/general/weather ... eral%20Use

According to the company, data is sent at 900MHz over the pager network.

The device itself has a small, non-extendable metal knob that's the top of the (mostly internal) antenna.

What would boost the signal if I attached it to the knob? A length of wire, a bowtie...? I get about 2 out of 3 bars, but it would burn through batteries more slowly with a full 3 bars.

Nice device.

I doubt there is anything you can "attach" to the knob to improve the reception ...

900 mhz is in the cellular frequency range. If you really want to boost the performance, you can use cellular range extenders, or repeaters (for example, http://www.repeaterstore.eu/products/re ... at600.html), but these are not cheap ...
