Using amplifer from indoor antenna for attic antenna

Postby big3b69 on Sun Jan 25, 2009 1:07 am

Hello there,
I have a Memorex MLT-3221 tv with a digital tuner and my zip is 66616. The problem that I am having is with my antenna in the attic, I can get all the local stations except pr my ABC station (49.1). I do not have any signal booster currently connected but I do have several indoor tv top style antennas, one is a RCA ANT200B. Is there any way that I can connect the amplifier/booster from my indoor antenna to the antenna in the attic? I took it apart and there are wires going to the rabbit ears, is there some way to connect those to the coax cable? What I have in the attic is a 40" Boom Length, 17 Elements Outdoor Antenna for UHF-Only : http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2103088

Thanks,
Matt B.

What a freaking mess! What are you doing with rabbit ears AND an attic antenna? No you can't use the amplifier in a pair of amplified rabbit ears to amplify an antenna signal. KTKA-Dt is considerably weaker than the other Topeka stations, so you need more antenna to get them reliably. When you are serious about solving your problem, we need to consider a roof-mounted antenna and a distribution system to feed all of your TV sets.

I did not say I was using the rabbit ears, I was saying I just have them. I only have the one tv right now. I was thinking on buying the Winegard MS-2002 omnidirectional antenna with hopes of picking up some stations from Kansas City.

Nope: that isn't going to happen, either. If you only have one TV, and you want Kansas City, which is 60 miles from you, you are going to need a directional deep-fringe antenna on your roof with a rotator and a high-input preamplifier. An omnidirectional antenna like the MS2002 is good for about 15 or 20 miles for digital stations under the BEST of circvumstances. The amplifier in that type of an antenna is actually a liability where stations are strong, because it adds more noise to the digital signal, and the antenna itself gives you almost NO GAIN of it's own...Omnis are a disaster for digital reception. If you want good, reliable reception from Topeka and KC, get yourself a Winegard HD-7697 VHF-high-band + UHF antenna, a Winegard HDP-269 high-input preamplifier, and a rotator like the Channel Master 9521a automatic rotator, which is opperated by an infared remote control...This rig will get you everything that you want in digital from BOTH cities without a hitch.
