Unusual antenna problems please help

Postby wetzel402 on Mon Feb 14, 2011 12:54 pm

Hi everyone,

I really need some advise.

I recently purchased an outdoor antenna for my home and attic mounted it. When I first received the antenna I tested it by connecting the drop directly to my TV and it functioned perfectly. When I relocate the TV to the living room and connect my drop into the wall wiring I loose the stations that broadcast further away and the closer stations come in well most of the time. I have a distribution amplifier and when I add it there seems to be little difference. Also a strange occurrence it that when I physically touch the amp or spilters the stations seem to come in better.

Another strange occurrence is sometime walking in my hallway effects the signal but not always.

Any help and or incite would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Also, the close channels are just over 2 miles away and the far ones that I am trying to get in are 21 miles away.

I am maybe over amplifying the close stations??? Why when I touch and hold the splitter or amplifier do the stations seem to come in better???

Sounds like a defective (or improperly installed) distribution system.

Run new cable and eliminate the amplifier.

I have actually experimented and found that connecting my TV directly to my drop using a 10' indoor coax cable enables great viewing. My next experiment will involve moving the TV into different rooms other than my living room to test the in wall coax. This should help determine issues with the cable run to the living room.
