Re: Tips for Getting Good Antenna Advice

As an electrical engineer, some important, basic questions arise beyond the normal range of this forum that I'd like to see discussed more fully.

May I suggest including some fundamental answers on the hdtvantennalabs.com homepage, and not in this forum.

1. Many DTV OTA stations are not currently broadcasting at full power. How does this affect my current purchase decisions.

2. Diagram some typical antenna and converter installations for website viewers. A picture is (sometimes) worth a thousand words.

3. Some technical comparison of DTV OTA quality should be made, particularly as concerns picture areal resolution and color depth (color is the forgotten and neglected dimension in pictures). Some mention might be made of audio resolution as well.

4. Canada is not converting to DTV next year. Analog TV reception will still be needed along the northern U.S. border for some TV viewers, and I suspect the same is true along the southern border. These stations often provide a alternative, and often insightful viewpoint, to American TV. Analog pass-through will be helpful to many viewers.

5. Longevity of equipment. How long do antennas last? How long does coax cable last? How long do various HDTV technologies last? [ Some "early" LCD TV's had a 3 year life. Corrosion is the enemy of enemy of electronics, as is heat and moisture. ]

Thanks for listening.

Hi Detroiter,

Thanks for your feedback, you've got some fair points. I'll certainly keep them in mind when devising our future plans.

We are working now to provide more information on the complementary equipment, such as cables, connectors and pre-amps. We feel that we really lack content on these, and people keep asking us questions about them all the time. Hopefully, we'll get to the points you mentioned some day.

Thanks again,
