the Right antenna

Postby gbrowne on Tue Nov 17, 2009 3:28 pm

OK, so we are trying to retreive "free"tv. I'm told the animal still exists out there.
Zip 34668. Lat/long 28 deg 17' 05.41" N 82 deg 41' 41.95" W. Running two sets, a Vizio 42" flat and a 19" Magnovox. Open area, no major trees or blockages. You've made a recommendation before of another location for which I am very grateful. Now my current location has stations at my 5 o'clock and 7. What would be the best antenna for effective useage? Do I need a rotor or amplifier for that amount of signal spread and station distance? In other words, if it was your place, what would you utilize? Thank you for you assistance!

Almost all of your Tampa St-Pete stations come from the same direction, except for WTSP-DT, channel 10, which is very close to you. I would suggest a Winegard HD-7696p VHF-high-band plus UHF antenna mounted on your roof, aimed at 145 degrees. it will pick up WTSP-DT, even off axis, becasue WTSP is so strong in your area. I would use a high-input preamplifier like a Winegard HDP-269, and run the coax to a central location in your house, then add the preamp power injector, then mount your 3 or 4 way splitter and make your runs to the various TV sets. As long as you have digital tuners or converters, you'll see all of the TSP stations without a hitch.

Fantastic. It's nice to know that his is doable. Also, what is a preamp power injector, or is there a Winegard version?

The power injector is part of the HDP-269 preamplifier. It lives indoors, and connects to the coax cable to feed DC power back to the preamplifier, which is mounted at the antenna, from inside the house.
