Suggestions for reception analysis gizmos?

Postby bharbwyr on Sat Mar 13, 2010 4:06 pm

Hi.
In my work as a master electrician in Zip-03886, I am running into people around town who want me to help them get their tv back. I have been trying without success to get a PBS station with my own barn-top system, so it seems like I've found the Holy Grail when I am able to pull one of the two PBS stations in for some of the residents (usually the ones who live on hillsides).

I'm wondering what tools people who are in similar situations use when searching out stations in a variety of locations. My usual MO involves an initial web search, followed up by hauling a large vhf/uhf antenna that I am keeping for this specific purpose onto their lawn and mounting it on a temporary mast 10-15 feet up, and running a length of coax through a window to their set. This seems unnecessarily clunky and not definitive as I know that just by gaining the additional altitude of the roof can make a huge difference.
Any suggestions on tools that I could haul up onto the roof and (relatively safely) seek available stations without the time and aggravation of my current method?
Thanks,
Hans

I think that you can start by using TVFool.com. It will be necessary to read the interpretation instructions thoroughly to know how to interpret the results of what you get for a report: I will help you with the first few of them, if that will help you. The trick is to know how to recommend equipment based on the results of the report that you get on the specific address: again, I can help you there. Because where you live tends to be very mountainous, having the exact address or coordinates of the user is critical to getting the right information about the location. Good Luck!
