Suggestions for Indoor & Outdoor antennas

Postby pdalton on Sun Feb 28, 2010 12:52 pm

We have FIOS cable, which we love, but we have several more (older, tube) sets in the house than we have cable converter boxes and for which we have purchases HDTV converters, so now we need to figure out what antenna(s) to put with them.

We could buy 2-3 indoor antennas if any are known to be particularly good, or we can bite the bullet and install an outdoor antenna in the attic or -- to the neighbors' horror, I suppose, on the roof of the house.

So we would appreciate your thoughts about which antennas to consider and the likely pros/cons of each for us.

Our coordinates according to Google Earth are: 32 degrees 54'37.73"N, 97 degrees 07'14.75"W, and altitude of 581'.

Thank you.

While you are only 25 miles from the Dallas-Ft.Worth transmitters, you have an obstructed view of the transmitters from your location, and I would strongly recommend using a roof-mounted antenna in your location: an attic installation will yield unpredictable results. I would use a Winegard HD-7696P antenna mounted on your roof, aimed at 155 degrees as measured by a compass. Run the cable to a central location inside the house, and add a distribution amplifier like a Channel Master CM3414, which will power 4 TV sets, and then run the coax cables from the amplifier to your various TV sets. Your reception on the DFW stations will be so good that you might even forget FIOS and use over-the-air for your HDTVs!
