Splitting an Antenna Signal

Postby ed02840 on Sun May 29, 2011 7:37 pm

I had existing good reception with my outdoor HDTV antenna. I live in 02840 have a new Hitachi 50" 1080P HDTV. I own a 3 family house. About 50' tall with few obstructions.
I split the coaxial cable from the outdoor antenna and ran one line directly to the third floor apartment. The other line runs to the basement into an amplifier then to the other TV's. My third floor apartment gets some reception however there is no reception to my other TV's where I previously had reception. I live relatively close to some stations so that I could probably get some reception with a coat hanger. I have checked and rechecked all the connections at least 3 times.
I guess my question is HOW CAN I GET AN HDTV TO ALL 3 APARTMENTS. I am obviously doing something wrong. Thank you.

the splitter is cut in backwards or you have a shild wire wrapped around the center conductor... or the splitter is bad... If it worked before you cut the splitter in 3 db of difference will not wipe out your reception so recheck the direction of the splitter.. Make sure your input from the antenna goes to the in port of the splitter....

P.s. You need to think about moving the amp before any splitters.. It will make up for the loss of the splitters... You want your amp to be the first device...
