Rural MN antanna problems

Postby printerdude83 on Sat May 02, 2009 1:43 pm

Hello, I an currently living in MN area code 56003. I have in place an antanna with a signal booster that picks up HDTV stations some days and on other days only has difficulty (a.k.a. No signal). I understand that it depends on the weather conditions and whatnot. The antanna I am using is about 15 years old and I am looking to upgrade. I am unsure where my transmitting towers are exactly. I believe that I am pointing my antanna twards the twin cities. Any Advice as to what i should upgrade to, to recieve HDTV better?

You have one local CBS station within 25 miles of you in Mankato, and some translator stations in St. James that should be easy to get, but if you want the Twin Cities, you need a new VHF-high-band plus UHF antenna system. I would suggest a two antenna system consisting of a Winegard YA-1713 VHF high-band antenna plus an Antennasdirect 91XG UHF antenna mounted on your roof, as high as you can manage. Install the YA-1413 and the 91XG on the same mast, mounting the 91XG at least 4' higher on the mast than the YA-1713. Use a Channel Master 9521A rotator so you can aim the array, and combine the outputs of the two antennas using a Channel Master Titan 7777 preamplifier, which will also help preserve your digital signals through the combining and distribution process. this antenna system, when properly installed, should allow you to see the MSP stations as well as Mankato and the St. James translators.
