rooftop antenna for 58002

Postby tx900 on Wed Apr 29, 2009 7:42 pm

Have a 25 year old ant. that looks like a Channelmaster CM3020. Some trees to the Northeast. About 70 feet to the distribution point for 2 to 3 tvs. Also currently have heavily shielded ribbon cable that will be replaced with coax. Using Insignia converters now with good to fair results ( best in good weather). The stations we watch are located from 6 to 107 degrees. Any suggestions before I get the ladder out?

Your stations come from 3 different directions: ypou will need a high-band VHF plue UHF antenna on a rotator to Puck up all of your available stations. I suggest using a Winegard HD-7696P mounted on your roof with a Channel Master 9521a rotator. Run your new RG-6u coaxial cable to a central location where you have AC power, then add a Winegard HDA-100 amplifier, then use a high-quality 1 gHz or better 4 way splitter to distribute the signal to your TV sets.

Thanks for the recommendations. Could I substitute an HD-7697P for the 96? Also,is there a way to do this without the rotator? Perhaps with two antennas and a combiner?

Yes, you can substitute the HD-7697P for the 7696P, but the cost of a 7697P is greater than the cost of aa two-antenna system like a Winegard YA-1713 plus an AntennasDirect 91XG, which will clearly outperform it. As for a totator: I strongly suggest that you use the rotator rather than using multiple antennas, as its very difficult to have miltiple antennas aimed in different directions work without introducing multipath and harmful antenna interactions.
