Receiving signals from Chicago and Milwaukee

Postby clomastro on Fri May 14, 2010 6:01 pm

I live in Wauconda, IL 60084. I temporarily hooked up an old cheap (Phillips $50) directional antenna that was mounted in my attic and pointed toward Chicago. I was surprised to see how many stations were available. I was even receiving many stations from Milwaukee, but the Milwaukee signal was weak.

I would like to have two directional antennas, 1 for each Chicago and Milwaukee. Is there a way to patch both anntenas together into a single cable connected to the TVs? We have 4 TVs and don't want to use a single anntena and rotor.

Thanks for your help,
Carl

You are not going to get one antenna that will do it for you, and combining broadband antennas aimed in two different directions into one cable is a problem because of potential cancellation and multipath effects. If oyu cannot use a rotator, and want to be sure that you can get all your stations, you can use two broadband antennas mounted on the same mast by using separate coaxial cable runs from each antenna to each TV location, then select the the correct antenna by using an A/B coaxial switch. This requires running parallel coaxial cable wires in the house to each TV location. If you plan top run multiple TV sets, you will need a preamp and power supply for each antenna as well as separate splitters. You will have two cables running to each location where a TV set is located, and the correct antenna will be selected by oyour A/B switch. This is the only way that I know that will insure good reception of both cities.

In order to know exactly what equipment that you will need, it will be necessart to provide a TVFool.com report for your location.
