RCA ant 806

Postby aqw8326 on Fri Sep 12, 2008 10:34 pm

I just ran acoss this antenna, claims to be bi-directional, 360 degres, red zone.
I live in the 89011 zipcode, and the furthest transformer is 8.5 miles away, the closest is 3.8 miles awa, but I have tall buildings and mountains around me.
I want to use my existing cable connection (condo is wired for cable), so I can attach 3 TV's to the one antenna.
My Home Owners Association will not allow us to put antenna's on the roof, but a low profile antenna might pass.
Right now I am using a Phillips MANT940 antenna, mounted at 7 ft, on my back patio and using the cable junction box connection, to run all the tv's in the house.
All of my TV's are over 5 years old and not digital capable, I also have a Maganavox TB100MWP and a RCA DTA900 conveter boxes.
I have been trying to educate myself on this change over, and do not want to waste money on items I do not need.
Does anyone know anything about this antenna, or have any suggestions?

What makes RCA 806 better than MANT940 that you are currently using? Do you have any issues with MANT940?

Since this issue is so new, there is much confussion about what works, and anyone can paste HDTV on their item, which the Phillips MANT940 is, however it is UHF/HDTV.
From what I have gathered for OTA I need a VHF/UHF/HDTV antenna.
I cannot get channels 8 and 13, which are 8.5 miles away, with the antenna, but can without it, for now.
Since I have put money in this antenna and a converter box that I do not like, I am hoping to get it close to right this time.

Yes, you need a VHF antenna and even more so after the transition. After Feb 2009 you gonna have FOX and CBS on channels 7, 9 and also NBC on channel 2 which is a very low band VHF.

The good news are that you are pretty close to the towers. Even though RCA 806 is not much of an antenna, I believe it can do the job within 10 miles distance. IMO, a better short-range low-profile antenna is Winegard SS-2000.

Good Luck!
