outdoor antenna

Postby ccbb088 on Mon May 03, 2010 7:52 pm

I am thinking about getting rid of cable tv in the upcoming months because of the raises in rates. I am somewhat familiar with antennas (thats all we had when I was younger). We had multiple TV's hooked up to 1 antenna with no amplifiers. I live in the 21015 area about 35 miles northeast of the Baltimore area and southeast of Lancaster, PA which has some local stations. I plan on hooking a single outdoor antenna to 5 newer digital ready TV's. I have a place on the end of my single story rancher for a gable mount. What antenna do I need and should I have any amplifiers or will it do alright without them. Thank you.

When we run a TVFool.com of your zip code, both the Baltimore and Washington DC stations seem to be the most likely choices for you: Baltimore is only 25 miles away, and the DC channels are about 60 miles away, but still put a usable signal into your area. To know for certain, it would help if you would post your TVFool.com report here, so we can be sure that your location resembles the reception conditions of your generic zip code. I believe that we are going to want to use a fringe-area VHF=UHF antenna on a rotator, along with a preamplifier, but I want to see your exact location to know exactly what to use.
