OUTDOOR antenna recommendation for Brooklyn NY

Postby spiderhole on Fri Jun 03, 2011 2:58 pm

I just moved to an apartment in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn (11231 zip code) occupying the garden & parlor floors. The bad news is that this makes an indoor antenna almost useless. However...the good news is that I have access to the back yard, which has one of those old metal laundry towers that parallels the height of the building. I can therefore string an outdoor antenna up 5 stories.

So here are the details to help you folks help me:

1) The coax cable will need to run ~150 feet from the top of the tower to my living room. I'm thinking RG6 quad shield, yes?

2) The TV is a Panasonic Vierra, built in digital reception

3) I don't have any other cable accessories, internet, whatnot...it'll be a straight line in from the outdoor antenna to the TV.

4) Most of the stations are at the 350 degree or 20 degree vector from me.

QUESTIONS:

1) Any particular antenna recommendations?
2) Any issues running a coax cable for this distance?
3) What should I do to mitigate possible lightning from frying my TV?

Thanks.

...two quick pieces of follow-up info:

1) I'd like to split the antenna signal between two TVs. Would I need to amp the signal if I do this?

2) The surrounding buildings are about the same height as mine (5 stories)
