New Install in 38030 (NW TN)

Postby H-D on Mon Aug 30, 2010 1:50 am

I have only acquired 50' of antenna tower thus far. Coordinates are: Lat: 36.03 Long: -89.481. The ONLY NBC affiliate is WMC-DT (5 real 5.1 virt) @ 18NM (db). A further complication is a tiny local station WDYR-CA (18 real 33.1 virt) @ 63.1NM (db). I'd like to do this once & forget it (save for maintenance). The weak NBC affiliate in low VHF range is the only one which would seem to be problematic, as the rest are UHF. Questions: 1. Will I need two antennas networked somehow to make this work? 2. Is the local station's tower (2 mi. but not in conflict with any other desired station's tower azimuth) too powerful to allow a pre-amp? 3. Is there a method for blanking that sucker out? 4. Is there any problem with locating a 90 cm Ku dish @ the 15' level of this tower? 5. Are there any tips/cautions you'd lay on me? 6. Naturally, what equipment would you recommend I acquire; I haven't purchased the digital big-screen yet, but I favor Samsung's product line (probably LCD with LED). Thank y'all ever so kindly!!!

All of the Memphis stations should come in for you if you use the right antenna: if you want the others, you can use a rotator to turn the antenna from one city to another. There should be no issues with using a DBS dish near the tower. I would use a Winegard HD-8200u or a Channel Master Crossfire 3671 mounted on the top of your tower. As for that small local station, you can use a preamplifier without an issue, but you need a high-input preamp like a Winegard HDP-269 to avoid overloading the preamp. I would expect that you'll see all your major networks, including WMC-DT, with either of those antenna systems.
