New house looking for best tv antenna advice for system

Postby wooter on Wed Jul 14, 2010 6:42 am

Attached is a tv fool radar plot.
I have just recently purchased a home and would like to not have to pay for tv. I plan to but an antenna on the roof of the house which is shingles. I was hoping to run the coax down from the antenna into the basement and then up to four locations through out the house. I am looking at what would be the best setup for me. Do i need a large antenna? Do i need a pre amp? I would like to get as many as channels as possible as any one would but fox, nbc, cbs, and abc are the more important ones.

My question to you is: do you want the Toronto-Hamilton stations, are you content with the Buffalo channels? The Buffalo stations are in 2 different directions for you, almost 180 degrees apart, but are pretty strong in your area. If you just want to see buffalo network stations, get yourself a an AntennasDirect DB-4 4-bay UHF antenna, and gently remove the reflector screens from the back of the antenna, which will give you a bi-directional antenna, then aim the antenna at roughly 40 degrees as measured by your compass: this will allow you to see the Grand Isle transmitters as well as the other Buffalo transmitters: run the cable into your basement, and connect a Channel Master CM3414 distribution amp, which will give you enough connections and amplifier power to run 4 TV sets. Your problem is solved!
