New here...need antenna advice.. zip 27539, NC

Postby Senterman on Wed Dec 24, 2008 9:20 pm

Location, Near Raleigh, NC,
Latitude: 35.681304
Longitude: -78.717677

3 Digital TVs
(1) Standard Digital TV, (1) Diamond TV Wonder HD 650 Combo USB HDTV Tuner – Connected to my high-end laptop, (1) Diamond TV Wonder HD 650 Combo PCI Express Tuner Card – Mounted in Desktop PC

Digital only (UHF) stations.. no analog stations.

Please help me confirm what antenna is needed for me to use a splitter to connect the 3 TVs and will I need a pre-amp or not? Plan to use a rotator and RG6 Quad Shielded Coax too.

Before I answer, are you looking JUST for the Raleigh-Durham stations? Do you need PBS and the Spanish stations?

Yes I need WUNC PBS Chapel Hill, NC and WRPX ION Rocky Mount, NC.. besides all the Raleigh channels. No.. Spanish channels are not required. Looks like all the other channels in the surrounding area are duplicates.. unless you (or others) see otherwise. Thanks for the all the help.

Try a Winegard HD7694p mounted n the roof and use a Channel Master 9521a rotator to turn the antenna. Use all RG-6u coax cable, and use a Winegard HDP-269 high-input all channel preamplifier. Split the signal after the preamp power supply using a 1 gHz or better 4 way splitter.

Thanks for the recommendation. Just curious why you suggested a combo VHF/UHF antenna? All the stations are UHF near me.. unless I'm missing something. Assume I should be looking at the real channels and not the virtual channels?

WTVD-DT, channel 11, will be going BACK to 11 after February 17, 2009, so you will need VHF as well as UHF reception to get all of your stations...

Yes, Channel 5 from Durham's digital signal is actually on UHF channel 48, and will remain there after the digital switch-over on February 17, 2009
