New OD antenna choice for 89801

Postby 1longshot on Sat Sep 10, 2011 10:25 pm

256 West Pine
Elko NV, 89801
2- o4 sets.
One Philips flat screen bought in 2009. One CRT.
House has cable wire installed to 4 rooms from recent installation of Dish network. I have since closed my Dish account.

Do not live in a heavily for forested area, no tall buildings. There are however buildings and trees in LOS of my house. Unsure of LOS obstructions to actual towers. I will have to look.

Here is what I wrote on another forum:

I am a super FNG to this antenna thing. I am very interested in getting and installing a quality antenna but I have a few questions before I put the bucks down. Here is my info from antennaweb:

I don't know if installing this antenna is too much? Winegard HD7698P Platinum Series HDTV Antenna The distance to towers is not very far away.

My next question is, can I hook up this antenna to my previously installed Dish cables. They go to 4 different rooms in the house and I would like to have TV access there again.

If not what do I need? What questions do I need to ask of myself.

Finally I was thinking of using my brick chimney to install a mast on is this okay?

Please help me get started, any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for your information, but it is largely useless to me: please post your TVFool.com report here, and I can help you!

Thanks for the TVFool.com report. Your situation isn't bad, and you don't need an antenna as large as a Winegard HD-7698P to get your TV stations. What you will need is a a 2- antenna setup, with a broadband all-channel antenna aimed at the cluster of transmitters that lie almost due east of your location (82 degrees compass heading)

I would suggest using a Winegard HD-7082P aimed at the cluster of transmitters, and a small VHF-high-band yagi aimed at 200 degrees to pick up channel 10, your NBC transmitter. You can mount the two antennas in the same mast, but be sure to separate them by at least 4', with the smaller antenna above the larger one. Combine the two antenna signal cables into one cable using a Channel Master Join-Tenna tuned for channel to channel 120.

If you can't find one of those, order a channel 10 bandpass filter-joiner from the Tin Lee company (http://www.tinlee.com) Bring the single cable down to your the point where your old DISH cables converge, disconnect the old DISH cable running from the satellite dish, and connect the TV antenna cable to that point. Next, connect the existing DISH cables that were connected to the satellite receivers directly to the antenna connector on your TV set or digital converter. Go into the menu on eact TV/converter and scan for stations: your local stations should pop right in after a minute or two.
