New Antenna Advice / review

Postby RLeGrand on Thu Aug 19, 2010 11:28 am

I live in Winfield KS zip code 61756. Live north of town about 5 miles somewhat elevated on hill. I am looking to install a new antenna and would like channel options from the Wichita, Hutch area. Also would like to pickup channels south of us from Ponca City OK, Tulsa, OK if possible.

Have access to a rotor, currently I have a DB8 HDTV antenna that is spotty on picking up channels.

I see on ebay and Amazon antenna's that have a range of 100 - 150 mile range.

Brand: Lava - Model: HD2805 other brands are Antenna Pros model AX909

Has anyone had any luck with any of these new antenna's?

Also taking recommendations on new setup.

Thanks in advance

Seriously, those antennas are crap. Any claim of reception beyond the curvature of the earth, roughly 65 miles or so, are flat out BS. Sporadic reception may take place beyond that, but its due to atmospheric peculiarities, not ingenious antenna design.

Start with an exact address TVfool analysis so we can get a preview of what's around you for reception possibilities.

You inverted your zip-code numbers, which caused me to have to do some more research...67156 is your actual zip code!

Wichita -Hutchinson stations are available to you with the right antenna system, but OKC and Tulsa are too far to be expected on any regular basis. Since you have several VHF high-band digital stations in addition to UHF, you will need a combination VHF-high-band plus UHF antenna in order to see them all: I would recommend a Winegard HD-7698p antenna mounted on either a roof or a tower, aimed at 320 degrees if you want to see the Wichita-Hutchinson stations. if you want to try for stations from other cities, you can add a rotator, liker a Channel Master 9521a or an AntennaCraft TDP-2, but your reliable TV channels will come from Wichita. You may want to add a preamplifier if you plan very long cable runs from your antenna (more than 75') or if you plan to split the signal to multiple TV sets. You can consider a Channel Master Titan 7777 or a Winegard AP-8275 for good deep-fringe preamplifiers
