I need some help with best antenna choice

Postby tvp3 on Sat Feb 05, 2011 4:16 pm

I live in zip code area 37862 Sevierville,Tn,(foothills to the Smoky Mountains) in the city limits. What antenna would you recommend? TV is a Sony Bravia and currently using a Phillips indoor UHF/VHF/FM/HDTV antenna, model # SDV2210/27. This model works okay but cannot receive Public Broadcasting channels also having a problem tuning into CBS occasionally. I have to adjust fine tuning most of the time, so my question is should upgrade to a outside antenna with remote rotor? I can receive PBS on a basic antenna and box in another room but not NBC. Low signal strength 30-50 range. All information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

First thing you have to do is go to tvfool.com and "Check your address for free tv". Once you get that, copy the URL to the message you sent in. It helps them figure out what you need to do. Of course, once you get this info, you can look at the site and try to figure it out yourself. The result you get is a map that shows you where all the stations in relation to your address. The color coding around your site indicates what type of antenna you will need to receive a signal from any one of those stations listed. The direction of the stations you want to receive will tell you whether or not you need to use a rotor or not (most antennas are uni-directional, meaning they have to be pointed in the direction of the source of the signal in order to get it. You also want to look at the type of signal the stations are sending. If you want stations that have UHF and others that have VHR, you will need an antenna that gets both types of signals.

After you have that info, you can look on the TV antenna tab of this site and find antennas that have the features you need. From there, go to a site like amazon or bizrate and buy the antenna you are looking for.

Hope this helps, as I see these guys aren't in a hurry to answer you.
