Do I need a new antenna?

Postby cwmartin on Sat Jan 03, 2009 4:41 pm

I am trying to help my 90 year old Father in Law. He has only one TV, an Element HDTV (FLX2210). Antenna is on the roof (about 15 years old). Zip Code 19362. He only watches channel 10 and switches to channel 6 only when he can’t get what he wants on channel 10. I put a new cable in from the antenna. The problem is that he can not get digital channel 10-1. He can get many other digital stations in both the UHF and VHF format. He does get a good picture on analog channel 10, but that will probably end in February. Do we need to put a up a new antenna or an in line booster? Thanks Charles

I don't know what you have for an antenna now, but the digital WCAu is going to be pretty weak where you are after February: I would suggest looking at a new antenna system for him. All of the digital stations are pretty weak where he is, and WPVI-Dt is moving back to channel 6 after Feb 17, so I suggest using a really good all-channel antenna aimed at Philly and include a preamplifier like a Channel Master Titan 7777. I would look at the Winegard HD-8200U or the Channel Master Crossfire 3671 all channel antennas, which are widely available. He is also in a position to pick up Baltimore where he is, but chances are good that he won't care one way or another...use a rorator if you are looking for anything else besides WCAU, KYW and WPVI
