Need Indoor Antenna Reccomendation In Florida

Postby WOPR on Fri Nov 27, 2009 10:19 am

I am in Port Saint Lucie, FL; zip code: 34983, Google Maps tells me I am at 27.308164,-80.369659

I am looking for an indoor antenna suggestion. I am in a rental house, hence my need to keep the antenna indoors. I cannot make any modifications to the exterior of the house. What may be beneficial to this project is the fact that I have a crawl space over my garage that is fairly large. It is approximately 4 X 4 X 8 FT with the it running lengthwise north to south. After using the Antenna Selector on this site, I see most of the stations I will be recieving will be coming from the West Palm Beach area, and all seem to be between 152º-189º (which coincides nicely with the crawl space above my garage). There is no insulation above the garage, just 2 X 4's and some roof straps. On the north end of the space (technically over the living area, and out of my "installation zone") there is some large aluminum ducting for the HVAC.

Please let me know what would work best for my situation. I'd like to get this done right the first time. I know an exterior antenna would help accomplish that goal - I know the right equipment makes all the difference, but it just won't work in this situation. So, I thank all in advance for their advice!

Any recommendation that I give you must be tempered by the knowledge that IT MIGHT NOT WORK IN A CRAWL SPACE. All of your desired TV stations lie almost due south of oyur location, and several of them are fairly close and are powerful, others, like the West Palm Beach VHF stations, channels 12 and 13 plus FOX UHF are 50 miles away, and are likely to be troublesome unless your antenna is out in the clear, but I would try a Winegard HD-7696P or an AntennaCraft HBU-44 mounted in the area designated, and aimed south (180 degrees) of your location. You might also consider a high-input preamplifier like a a Winegard HDP-269 mounted at the antenna.
