Need help determing range!!!

Postby rmoreaux1 on Sun Sep 21, 2008 8:46 pm

I live about 30 miles from the stations I would like to recieve. I live north of dayton, ohio and would like to get stations further away, also. I really want the channels that are 30 miles away to be the best they can be. and would like to get ones further south also. Do I need to get an antenna that is around the 30-50 mile range or can i get like a really long 100 mile range one without Sacrificing my 30 mile range. this may sound like a dumb question but they really do not range them as clear as I would like. Size is not an issue, nor is style. I would just like to get the very best. I am tired of having my favorite channel dropout just when I really want to watch it. Thanks. This is my first post, as I am a noob here.

OK, try reading the "tips for getting good answers", but I know your area, and can probably help. You are north of Dayton, and want to get Dayton and Cincinnati. Cincy is about 80 miles from you, so no one would guarantee Cincy at that distance unless you had a tall tower and a deep-fringe antenna system, rotator and preamplifier. If you can content yourself with just Dayton, you can get away with a near-fringe antenna mounted on the roof. All of the Dayton stations will remain on UHF digital after Feb, 17, 2009, so you can use an antenna like a Channel Master 4221 mounted on the roof to pick them up. If you want Cincinnati, too, expect to use a 50' tower, a big antenna like a Channel Master 4228 plus a VHF high-band antenna like a Winegard YA-1713, and a preamplifier like a Channel Master Titan 7777
