need antenna suggestions, tvfool included

Postby Wizze on Fri Jul 16, 2010 10:41 pm

Hi all,
my tvfool data is as follows:

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapp ... 90d482be52

I am looking to pick up primarily the vhf channels in the 246 to 252 degree range. My main question was if I might have any luck picking up the channel 5 with the Antennas Direct C5. I know it is designed for the high band, but I recall being able to pick up this channel (should note, back in the analog days) with rabbit ears. I have not tested if I could pick up the digital feed with the rabbit ears though.

My first thought was the Winegard HD5030 for all the VHF channels that direction, but quite frankly the C5 appeals to me for its size/shape. The antenna (either that I end up with) will be located approximately 25 to 30 feet above ground level with no foliage or structural obstructions near.

I currently can pick up the closest UHF signal with an indoor unit, so I probably will not worry about replacing that one. I am not concerned about WTAE (the Pittsburgh based ABC) as I can get that on a subchannel of one of the others.

Let me know your thoughts, I am really only going on wishful thinking and would love a more experienced opinion.

Thanks so much!

edit: by the way, will be using this on 3 tvs. At most in the future would be 4.

I believe that your thinking about your antenna needs is wrong; what you need is a VHF-UHF antenna that will pull ALL of your stations consistently. I would use a Winegard HD-7082P, which will do all the VHF and UHF stations in your area clearly: mount it on your roof, aim it at 250 degrees, by your compass. As for running multiple TV sets: run the coaxial cable from the antenna to your basement ot attic, where all the cables to the various TV sets will converge, and use an splitter-amplifier like a Channel master CM3414 to poser the 4 TV sets, then run to each room where you want TV.
