need advice please

Postby abirvalg on Thu Nov 19, 2009 4:54 pm

zip code 60585
i'm only interested in what's in 65-67 direction and about 35 miles away
i have to do an attic install in my 2 storie townhome
(roof top is not an option)
there's nothing but a roof of the same type building about 75 feet away in the direction of the towers
after that it's open fields for many miles

automatic selector gives me DB2 or 4 with a pre amp for a roof install

will i get anywhere if put up DB8 with a pre amp?

i can't see how any of the commonly recommended directional monstrosities will fit through my attic access and/or allow me to move it once inside

thank you!

You won't see WBBM-DT with a DB-2 or a DB-8: neither antenna will pull VHF. My suggestion would be to use a Winegard HD-7694P or, if you prefer, a separate UHF antenna like a Winegard HD-9032 UHF antenna and a VHF-high-band yagi like an AntennaCraft Y-5-7-13 or a Winegard YA-6713 joned into one cable using a Pico-Macom UVSJ antenna joiner.

A preamp would be useful if you have more that 75' of coax cable to run, or if you polan to run 2 or more television sets, oherwise, try it without and see how you do...

can i use something else instead of Pico-Macom UVSJ antenna joiner?
i'm having a hard time finding it
out of stock everywhere i go

Ace has their own but the output on it is a spring cap not a screw-on connector

Yes, the end of the HD-9032 that points towards the station is the long part of the antenna without the corner reflector. The YA-6713 has instructions that will show you which direction to point it.

it worked!!!
i finally got my new TV and the setup works like a charm
even though it's inside the attic
(it was a royal pain swinging the 9032 in there, i didn't expect it to be 10 feet long)

i feel like 9032 is the one doing 99% of the work, but i haven't verified it

i'm too lazy to list all the chanels i get, but over a dozen of them look trully amazing and got right into my favorites list
the rest are SD, redundant, analog or all three at the same time

thank you so much for the help!!!

I'm glad that it worked for you! Are you seeing all the major TV networks that you want?
