Need advice on an HD antenna

I live close to Memphis but still get bad reception on an old SD antenna that's in the attic. It's a huge antenna and one installer said it should work. It does not very well. I live in a heavily wooded area.
Any ideas? My zip is 38018

Also the same thing for my boat. Zip there is 34994. Closest city is Palm Beach, FL.
I have a Shakespear HD antenna on top of my boat but it will not work at all.

Any antenna munted n an attic is at a HUGE disadvantage: get it outside on the roof!, and consider a preamplifier if you have more than one TV set.
