SW of Nashville, TN - need advice please

Postby cosmosmariner on Fri Jan 01, 2010 6:40 am

Hi,

We have 3 HD TVs. Currently get DirecTV but are considering dropping that and putting up outdoor HDTV antenna. It seems we can mostly get UHF but still have a few important channels which are low band VHF, I think. Here is a link to my coordinates and channels.

Any recommendations for the right antenna? I know nothing about HDTV antennas, but would like to get this right the first time. I am on a high ridge and would like to mount the antenna on my house side or roof. Cable length could be up to 70' for the farthest TV from antenna.

Thanks so much to anyone who can provide good advice for a quality setup that works well.

I've PM'd my coordinates to you just in case.

Antenna height could be up to 20'.

Thanks for the TVFool.com scan: you appear to be in a moderately strong signal area: Nashville transmitters are only about 20 miles from your house. The one issue here is WTVF, your CBS station, is on low-band VHF station channel 5. You will need an all-channel antenna mouted on your roof. WKRN and WNPT lie in a slightly different direction than the other Nashville stations do, but those transmiters are very close to you, and you won't have any issue picking them up. I would use a Wnegard HD-7082P all-channel antenna mounted on your roof and aimed at 40 degrees, as measured by your compass. I would use a 4-way amplified splitter like a Channel Master CM3414 to distribute the signal to the various TV sets in your house: you should be able to see everything from Nashville without a problem with this antenna, including WTVF.
