Metairie LA 70003

Postby hootie318 on Thu Aug 04, 2011 10:49 pm

I am a newbie probably trying to tackle the impossible.

I want to access local channels in New Orleans about 10-15 miles east and local channels in Baton Rouge about 60-70 miles west. Omni Directional ANtenna? Two directonal antennas?

Plus my singal is not strong even to New Orleans without outdoor mount and amplifier. I think I get alot of interference between my home and the towers in New Orleans.

State WHERE you are: 70003

State HOW MANY television sets you plan to run from the antenna system: 1

let us know if you live in a heavily forrested area, or if you live where you have taller buildings or towers within 3-4 blocks from your location. No

It's also very helpful to tell us what kind of TV set you are using if you have a digital TV or a digital converter, since they all program digital reception differently: Custom PC-DVR with ATSC Tuner.

If you only ave one TV set, a large directional antenna mounted on a rotator at the highest point on the property will be your best bet. As long as your coax cable is less than 100', you should not need a preamplifier to see Baton Rouge, but you'll need to do everything else right to get everything that you are looking for.

I would suggest using a Winegard HD-7698P antenna and a good rotator like a Channel Master 9521a. You'll need the correct mounting equipment for your situation, and high-quality RG-6u coaxial cable.

Here is a link to a good TV antenna installation manual published years ago from Channel Master: almost all of it is still relevant today.
