Since I can no longer receive TV I have more time for the computer. A Little background... I live in the middle of the woods, in central TN (38574). I have a 3 story house, and my antenna is 15 feet above the chimney. It is directional with a rotor. I raised it 3 feet higher this summer in hopes of better reception, but only one channel (8 miles away) Which I can get on a rabbit ears also, comes in. I have 3 TV's on the antenna, 2 with converter boxes, 1 with an HD tuner. I am constantly scanning, since the stations do not come in if you just enter the number. Sometimes I get 4 or 5 channels. I sit back to watch a show, only to find out that after 5 minutes I get NO SIGNAL. I really suspect my antenna may not be working properly, although it got many analog stations clear as a bell. One interesting thing is that I bought 2 identical converters, both connected to the same antenna, but when I scan for channels, they both find different channels. How can that be?? Last Sunday, (the channel tower that is only 8 miles from my home) I got no signal on that channel off and on all day. I called the station, and they confirmed that they were putting out their normal signal. I suspected the trees around probably contributed to the problem, but now all the leaves are gone, but still no channels.
I don't mind investing in a new antenna, but how can I tell what a good antenna is?? I thought this was a good one. It is an ultra fringe 90 mile coverage. I tried an amplifier, and saw no difference, or poorer reception. It could have been a bad one. How does one know. I am afraid to try another one.
I live centrally between - Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville. I used to get all their analog stations, but I get one or nothing now. Well I really said more about my problem than I had intended. I just wanted to know if there is any hope for me.
I think it is a crime that the FCC has forced us to have to get cable or dish and pay high monthly costs for something that used to be free.
