Loss of reception

Postby shakyman on Mon Aug 04, 2008 8:44 am

I live at 118 Olive St., Milo, IA 50166. The transmitter antenna is in Alleman, Iowa, approximately 40 miles to northwest. I am using a 10-year-old 24-element outdoor, roof-mounted antenna with an in-line signal amplifier with cable splitter to provide signal to three tv's. When it rains heavily, I lose my VHF digital channels. Do I need an updated, more powerful antenna for reception during rainstorms? If so, what do you recommend? Thanx

It sounds as if you need a new and more powerful antenna, and should also replace the coaxial cable cable and preamplifier. The Des Moines stations will have 3 VHF digital stations after Feb 16, 2009, so you will need an all-channel antenna to pick the up reliably. I would suggest a Winegard HD7082P fringe antenna, new RG-6 cable along with a 1gHz or better 4 way splitter and use a low-noise, high-input preamplifier like a Winegard HDP-269. All of your stations should come in perfectly with the new equipment.

Thank you for the info. Had a feeling the antenna and signal amp were key. Rock on.
