Looking for dish mounted hd ota antenna

Postby dave on Thu Jan 14, 2010 6:10 pm

Hoping someone can help me; i'm looking for an ota antenna that can be mounted to my roof mounted directv oval hd dish (5 lnb i believe) and plugged into the antenna port of the multiswitch. zip code is 60008 and im just looking to pick up the chicago stations in HD (24mi away according to antennaweb.org).

Thanks!

Most 5-lnb dish systems don't permit the use of a diplexer: you will need to confirm that with DirecTV to be sure. In any event, the dish-mounted Terk 42 and Terk 44 antennas are usually poor perfomers. If you must mount an antenna on your dish, then consider looking at an antenna that clamps to the dish's J-mount. Have a look at the AntennaCraft HBU-22, which can be had from Radio Shack, as ong as you can engineed a way to mount it properly so it aims at the transmitters.

thanks for the quick reply and for mentioning the diplexer issue, it looks like you were right and i'll need to run more wires!

I was really hoping i could avoid putting up a big gaudy antenna on my house (had a dome shaped ota attached to the 3lnb dish at my last place, could never get CBS/2 though).

Any idea if the Winegard FV-HD30 or the Square Shooter would be adequate?
