Looking at buying a new antenna

Postby pat on Fri Dec 26, 2008 3:45 pm

I have an old cheesy indoor antenna (has a loop and two rabbit ears) that picks up uhf and vhf. For the most part reception is ok save for some pixelation and a warning box that appears and says my signal is getting weaker, or broadcast has failed.

The television is a sharp 46" lc-46sb54u (lcd) I live in the 23452 zipcode. Thats the only tv in the house perhaps I'll get a second one later, but have no plans for it as of now.

I have some tall trees in the neighborhood, and the closest major buildings are 3-5 miles away.

Thank you for your help

Most of the stations that you are looking for are about 23 miles away, and you would definitely benefit from a decent outdoor antenna. Most of your stations lie almost due west of you, but there are a few peripheral stations located in other directions. I would suggest mounting a Winegard HD-7694P antenna on the roof, aimed at about 265 degrees. If you are looking for stations other than the major stations, you might want to consider a rotator like a Channel Master 9521a. With this antenna and proper installation you will get all your local stations perfectly, with high signal strengths and no multipath, so you should almost never see dropouts.

I'm glad to hear it! You will NEVER see that level of HD quality from satellite or cable! OTA is THE way to go for HDTV!
