Is it just junk Digiwave Ant-7286?

Postby lank on Mon Mar 30, 2009 1:31 pm

I purchased two antennas from Digiwave a 4 bay and there 8 bay. The 4 bay is on my house approximately 35 to 40 feet in the air and faces directly at the CN Tower. I live approximately 35 miles north of the CN Tower in Canada. I receive all channels that are broadcasted from the CN Tower and a few from the Buffalo area, in all approximately 20 channels.

The 8 bay antenna I purchased was for one of my neighbours, his antenna is approximately 20 feet in the air and it’s been nothing but trouble. It doesn’t pick up any of the Buffalo stations and only pulls in approximately 12 digital channels. It seems every time I hook the two bays together I lose the signal strength. I was wondering what the possible problem could be?

I just came back from my neighbours in an attempt to realign his antenna and in the process I found if I only hook up one side of his 8 bay antenna, (essentially now it’s a four bay antenna) it works fine and was able to bring in the Buffalo stations. I was wondered if this is a common problem with the Digiwave ant-7286 Super 8 bay and is their a way to correct it?

two antennas whose outputs are fed ino a combiner and are aimed in different directions are bound to be a big problem: they will interact and cancel out much of the signal that they receive. The Digiwave antennas are common-Chinese-made antennas, and are really not bad at all, but they have to be installed and connected properly, and you you managed to do it wrong!

To do it right, use the 8 Bay antenna and mount it on a rotator so you can rotate it between the Toronto TV transmitters and the Buffalo transmitters. You cannot combine two dissimilar antennas and expect them to work.

Thanks for your reply but the 7286 Super 8 bay is one antenna. The design of this antenna uses two four bays attached to a bracket with all wires and a combiner preinstalled.

From my area, when I face the antenna towards the CN Tower it is automatically aligned with the Buffalo Towers therefore no rotator is required.
