Indoor versus Outdoor antenna in Zip 55418

Postby sniewald@mac.com on Sat Mar 21, 2009 4:47 pm

Hi:
I really appreciate your insight and advice! I've learned much from just reading the others posts in the forum.

I'm at 55418 Zip Code with an exact position of 45.012107 degrees N and 93.231678 degrees W. According to 'AntennaWeb' the OTA stations I can receive are all in the Yellow color band. I want to drop satellite and use an antenna to serve up a signal to 3 TV sets, all still analogue. I have RG6 Coax cable already routed internally from each room to a hub in the basement. From reviewing other posts it seems I can use an amplifier to boost the antenna signal and then a high quality splitter to send the signal to the 3 TV sets.

Would I be able to accomplish this with an indoor antenna or would it be better to use an outdoor one? Which brands/models would you recommend?

Thanks!

You might use three separate indoor TV antennas, but you are not likely to be happy with the results, and the investment in three antennas will be about what one good outdoor antenna split three ways would do. If you are currently wired to all three rooms for satellite service, then you can reuse the satellite wiring, making the installation a lot easier. I would mount a Winegard HD-7694P on your roof aimed at 65 degrees by your compass, run the coaxial cable output to where your existing satellite cable splitter is, and replace their splitter with a high-quality 4-way 1 Ghz or better splitter, and you should be in great shape.
