How's This List Look?

Postby perdignus on Thu Sep 04, 2008 8:45 pm

Hi Everybody!

I live on the 2200 block of N. 7th Street in Sheboygan, WI (53083). Were almost exactly between Milwaukee to the south and Green Bay to the north. I'd like to pull in both the Milwaukee and Green Bay stations with a new roof-top antenna without using a rotator. Our vintage 1970s antenna just isn't cutting it anymore. ;)

Here's the crazy part. A coworker of mine who lives in 54936, pointed the two halves of an Antenna's Direct DB8 in different directions. He has one half pointed to Milwaukee and the other half pointed to Green Bay and he says it works very well. I'd like to do the same.

There is one channel that will be on VHF 8 so I think I'll need a nice Yagi style like the YA-1713 or YA-6713, I'm not sure which would be better for me though.

Here's the complete list of everything I'd like to get. Please let me know if I'm on target here or if something should be reconsidered?

-UHF Antenna
Antennas Direct DB8 Multi Directional HDTV Antenna

-VHF Antenna
Winegard YA-1713 or YA-6713
What about a Funke PDP-1922? Where can they be purchased?

-Pre-Amp? Do I need one? If for nothing else maybe for the UHF/VHF combiner on it?
Channel Master 7777 Titan 2 UHF VHF Preamplifier

-Coax Distribution Amplifier
I'm not sure which is a better fit. I know I'll need at least 4 outputs.
8 Port http://www.amazon.com/Bi-Directional-Amplifier-Splitter-Booster-Passive/dp/B000WDR94U
or
4 port http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_info.php/pName/terrestrial-digital-da4-quad-output-distribution-amplifier

-RG11 Cabling? Is it worth it over RG6? I'll have a run from the roof of a 2 story house to the basement.

Here are the channels that I'd like to pull in:

Milwaukee 32
WCGV-TV UPN 25 UHF
WVTV WB 61 UHF
WPXE PAX 40 UHF
WMVS PBS 8 VHF
WMVT PBS 35 UHF
WTMJ-TV NBC 28 UHF
WWRS IND 43 UHF
WVCY-TV IND 22 UHF
WITI FOX 33 UHF
WDJT-TV CBS 46 UHF
WISN-TV ABC 34 UHF

Green Bay 69
WIWB WB 21 UHF
WACY UPN 59 UHF
WPNE PBS 42 UHF
WMMF-TV IND 44 UHF
WGBA NBC 41 UHF
WFRV-TV CBS 56 UHF
WLUK-TV FOX 51 UHF
WBAY-TV ABC 23 UHF

Any tips or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much,
Patrick.

Use the AntennasDirtect XH-91 instead of the DB-8, as it's more directional and easier to use when mounted on top of another antenna. You'll need a rotator to swith between Green Bay and Milwaukee

Thanks TIgerbangs! Do you think it would be worth paying a little extra for RG11 cabling?

Cheers,
Patrick.

RG-6u is usually fine unless you have VERY long cable runs from the antenna to the TV set, (150' or more) or if you are distributing to many television sets and have a need to minimize amplification. RG-11 has a center conductor that is big enough in diameter to present some issues when trying to insert it into many female RG-6 female jacks. There isn't anything WRONG with RG-11: it DOES have less loss than RG-6u, especially at UHF frequencies, but it requires special fittings and tools that are usually reserved for linemen and cable specialists.
