Help for 58425

Postby Nick on Wed Jan 21, 2009 3:59 pm

Looking for help for 58425 I will be using a TV tuner card for present and will later add in 2-3 TVs Our house is 95 ft long so will have longer cable runs when all set up.

At present I get KVLY-DT and KXJB-DT with just the little rabbit ears antenna that came with the card. Looking to pull in the rest of the stations in my area including Fox, ABC, and PBS. Will want to use a single antenna if possible and may put in a rotor with a preamp. May be getting a 40-50 ft high tower that will be near the house.

Any advice on specifics?

I'm afraid that that antenna is a toy: it will last about a week or two in the climate of North Dakots. You need a real antenna on a rotator and with a preamplifier to see what you are looking for. Try a Winegard HD-7696P with a Channel Master 9521a rotator mounted on your roof. If you plan to use multiple TV sets at some time in the future, buy a Channel Master Titan 7777 oreamplifier now, and mount that on your antenna mast. Several of our locak TV stations will be going bacl to VHF channels after Feb 17, so you will need to be prepared to rescan your tuner on Feb 18.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably just wait until after the transition to buy a better antenna to make sure my locals don't transmit on low VHF after the switch. As far as I can tell, the lowest channel will be our Fox which looks like they are going to flash-cut their signal to their present channel 7. I have not been able to find a clear answer to this though, they may go with 15 for digital.

Is there a place with definitive answers as to what channels the stations will be on? antennaweb.org and titantv.com and wikipedia.org conflict on some of our local stations digital channels.

TVfool.com draws it's info directly from the FCC, and I use it when determining what will happen after Feb 17. According to them, you will have no low-band VHF stations operating in digital in your area...KJRR-Dt will switch back to channel 7 for it's digital signal after Feb 17...
