Help! confused with tuners and reception.

Postby vrankulj on Tue Aug 05, 2008 11:02 pm

Hello,

I have recently bought a new television and would like to begin receiving HD signals.
The tv is a brand new SHARP 19" LCD tv (specifically, it is the LC-19SB14U).
My confusion is around whether or not I should require an HDTV tuner to pick up these channels.
I live in downtown Toronto and am wondering if just an antenna is all that I need to pick up the HD channels, or I need to buy an HDTV tuner along with an antenna to pick up the channels.

I understand that I will pick up a considerable amount of basic broadcast channels, but it is the HD channels that I am most confused and interested about.

I would appreciate any help.
I have scoured through the posts on this forum, but was unable to find the answers I am looking for. If there is a specific thread that I missed and should be looking at, let me know.

I would appreciate anything.

Thanks!

Tour TV set has an ATSC digital tuner which will tune HD TV. Connect your antenna to the set, go into the setup menu, and have the tuner scan for available digital stations. Toronto has a few, and you can usually pick up the Buffalo stations with an outdoor antenna.

Hi Dear:
Do not spend a single penny on any tuner. Simply buy a 15$ HDTV Antenna (mine is Digiwave) and hook the
coaxial cable directly to TV and go to Menu of the TV and auto Scan all the channels in Air/Antenna option of the Input of your TV Remote Control. I live in Mississauga West and got 11 channels crisp, you shall get more and clear.
Beware of agents in this Forum selling electronics. Cheers
