Ground rod clamps for two wires - meet NEC code

Postby lostsignal on Fri Dec 23, 2011 2:59 pm

Been searching hi & low about NEC req'mts for clamping 2 wires to same grd rod (electrode). All I could find is clamps must be rated for multiple conductors (how ever many your connecting). Except for online places or maybe an electrical supply house, most don't carry clamps obviously designed for > 1 conductor.

I don't know if typical "acorn" type clamps are acceptable for 2 wires. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100353838/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&superSkuId=202890960

Two similar size wires certainly fit in this type clamp on a 5/8 grd rod & are pulled tight. That doesn't mean it's approved, even if some do it that way.

I have separate grd rod for antenna & will have to run bonding wire around to electric service grd rod. I noticed the phone grd is connected to service grd wire - ABOVE - the grd rod a few in., w/ its own clamp. I can put a 2nd clamp on the electric service grd rod for the bonding wire, if required to meet code.

Then at antenna grd rod, will have to connect (2) # 8 copper for coax & mast to the rod. The clamping there isn't so much about meeting code as being safe in case of surges.
