My family and I have been in our home 10 years now and all we've ever had were rabbit ears. Since the transition to digital, my son and I built our own UHF antenna for the TV top. It brings in the signals okay (better than the rabbit ears' UHF loop), but could really use some improvement.
We're not big TV people (just have a regular ol' TV), but we're finally going to treat ourselves to a wall-mounted 55" HDTV this Christmas so I want to get an idea of what to look for in a good TV as well as a proper rooftop antenna to go with it. Rotator, preamp, whatever it takes to really pull the signals in screamin'.
So I'm here to hit the forums and read all I can about it so I can avoid some mistakes, which is always nice. No real challenges in reception where we live (on top of a hill in a 2-story house with a dozen or so stations within 20 miles), but there are some smaller and distant stations I'd enjoy the challenge of pulling in. For just a couple/three hundred bucks, why not, eh?! Heck, for what 6 months' cable/satellite bills would cost us, I expect we could have a seriously kicking OTA setup!
Looking forward to getting schooled here. Thanks!
