Good analog but poor digital

Postby djmal46 on Fri May 08, 2009 9:03 am

I have a VU 190 antenna with antenna rotor. We are about 45 miles from Philadelphia and 50 miles from Baltimore (21921). The analog channels look really good. Some digital channels come in good. Some drop out and some we can't receive. The best signal strength on a digital station is about 60 to 65 (on scale of 0-100 signal meter). Would a signal amplifier help?

A signal amplifier will probably help. Are you using more than one TV set connected to this antenna? I suggest looking at a Channel Master Titan 7777 preamplifier, which will help you overcome line losses and splitting losses, especially if you have multiple TV sets connected to your antenna. If your antenna is more than 5 years old, consider replacing that antenna with a new antenna. If you are interested, I can make some good suggestions for antennas to replace the VU-190

The antenna is only about a year old. There are 2 TV's connected to it. The cable from the antenna is 50' long and the cable to the second TV is 25'. I have heard that too much gain can also create problems. Would the CM 7777 be too much?

No, not at the distance that you are from the transmitters...
