Found I don't need amplified antennas

Postby wvfellow on Wed Dec 23, 2009 10:27 am

When I first started playing with HDTV reception, I purchased a Philips SDV6122/27 amplified indoor antenna. It was cheap and it worked okay. I also tried Aluratek and Apex brands amplified antennas. The Philips was better. Fortunately, I paid only an average of $12 each for these antennas but as it turned out, that money was wasted.

It was wasted because I am doing better now with passive antennas by RCA. Here is a link to purchase the RCA ANT1000 for under six dollars, delivered right to your door by Fedex! And it works very well. :D

But no, wait! I have since purchased a slightly upgraded passive RCA antenna, their model ANT1050, for under $12. Here is the link to that sensational bargain. I hung the thing in my attic, ran a 25-foot coax cable to my basement, and I am getting perfect reception down there. Just amazing! That was today, a fairly clear day. I'll post again when I see how well it does during inclement weather.

8-)

Keep in mind, I'm near a hilltop, and the transmitter is only 5 miles distant. I'm also picking up PBS from another (weaker) transmitter that is about 10 miles distant. My zip code is 26101. It's a small city with just a few channels over the air.
