Distribution amplifier installation for HDTV

Postby bmcdougald on Tue Aug 16, 2011 2:40 pm

It has been a while since I posted here. The last time I posted, I was having problems getting a good signal in all parts of my house.

I *finally* got up into my attic and traced down all of the splices through no less than 5 splitters (2-4 way and 3-2 way), with drops in 8 rooms total. That on top of the 125+ ft. run of coax from the antenna to tie in at the back of our house and into the attic up to the first splitter. After getting into the attic, I think I can bore a hole under the eave where the antenna is installed and run the coax directly into the attic and shave off approx. 90 ft of wire.

To replace the splitters, I have bought one Channel Master 8-Port distribution amplifier but I'm very concerned about the installation. The only place I can put it is in the attic and with brutal SE Texas heat I'm afraid that the unit/power transformer will overheat and possibly start a fire. I plugged the transformer into the unit and it does put out a good deal of heat.

Has anyone installed one of these in an attic before? Am I being over cautious about the heat?

Thanks.

The amp is UL rated, and should be just fine in your situation. Good Luck...
